Degradation of Detergents

Waste Type: Municipal / Industrial Mix
Flow: 5 MGD

Problem: An Iowa based municipal waste water treatment plant recieves high BOD loadings from a shampoo manufacturing facility that discharges high amounts of detergents, shampoos, surfactant, and oils. The high levels of these compounds causes excessive foaming, poor settling, poor dewatering as well as filamentious problems.

Solution: Adding BIO-SYSTEMS B350 formulation on a regular basis resulted in degradation of these compounds along with a reduction in  foam and filamentious problems.

Savings one year later:

  • Secondary sludge production is down by 5-10%
  • Plant recovers faster after an upset
  • Dewatering is easier
  • Effluent BOD is lower by 15%
